Peggyâs Blog:
Constructionâs Most Valuable Asset
The residential construction market is sending a message, and it is one we should pay attention to: We cannot build the future of housing the same way we built the past.
The latest numbers from the NAHB (National Assn. of Home Builders) make the challenge clear. New single-family home sales fell 10.5% in July to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 607,000âthe slowest pace since the beginning of the year. Sales were also down 6.3% from a year earlier. NAHB says single-family home building is on track for a second consecutive annual decline in 2026.

The Importance of Scheduling in Construction
Fall has always been one of my favorite times of year. Partly, because of the beautiful colors we have here in the Midwest, but I also love the fresh startâthe new routines, fuller calendars, earlier mornings, and more predictable evenings. Most of all, I love the opportunity to reset after summer. September brings routines back into focus and gives a natural opportunity to think about what worked, what didnât, and what habits and schedules we want to carry into the months ahead. I think thereâs a lot we can learn from that when it comes to construction.
Projects are built around schedules, but scheduling is about much more than putting dates on a Gantt chart or identifying a completion date. At its best, a schedule gives everyone a clear understanding of what needs to happen, when it needs to happen, and how their work connects to the project. With so many trades, materials, decisions, inspections, and deliveries moving through a project, that shared understanding is critical.
